Es una periodista y escritora estadounidense que vive en Roma desde 1996. Ha trabajado como jefa de la oficina de Newsweek y de The Daily Beast en Italia, y en la actualidad es la corresponsal de CNN en ese país, donde cubre entre otras las historias y tragedias de los inmigrantes.<br> Es autora de varios libros, entre ellos The Godmother, sobre las mujeres en la mafia que "se sumerge en el abismo de este poder inexplorado" (Roberto Saviano) o Angel Face, sobre el asesinato de Meredith Kercher y los juicios penales de Amanda Knox, que fue adaptado al cine en 2011.
