These gritty and unsparing stories take readers to the front lines of the war in Iraq and back, asking us to understand what happened there and what happened to the soldiers who returned. Whether in the combat zone or on the home front, they face life at the extremes, where happy stories and easy answers provide no guidance or comfort. Brutality and faith, guilt and fear, helplessness and survival the characters in this collection struggle to make meaning from the stuff of chaos. Written with hard-eyed realism and stunning emotional depth, Redeployment marks Phil Klay as one of the most talented new voices of his generation. It is poised to become a classic of the war-writing tradition.
Phil Klay is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Iraq's Anbar Province from January 2007 to February 2008 as a Public Affairs Officer. His writing has appeared in Granta, The New York Times, Newsweek, The Daily Beast, New York Daily News, Tin House, and The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2012.
