Trabajó como periodista y presentadora de informativos y durante dos años formó parte del gabinete de asesoría legal del Departamento de Policía de Oslo. Eso fue antes de fundar su propio bufete de abogados y convertirse en ministra de Justicia de Noruega. Actualmente compagina el periodismo deportivo y la escritura. En palabras de Jo Nesb , Anne Holt es la madrina de la novela negra noruega .
