Biografía del autor

Jane Austen (1775-1817) nació en Steventon, Inglaterra, donde su padre ejercía como clérigo anglicano. Fue la séptima de ocho hijos y desde joven mostró una gran pasión por la lectura y escritura. Sus novelas, entre las que destacan Orgullo y prejuicio, Sentido y sensibilidad y Emma, combinan una aguda ironía con una profunda observación de la sociedad de su tiempo. Austen, con su inconfundible mezcla de elegancia y sátira, plasmó con maestría la vida de la burguesía rural y las limitaciones impuestas a las mujeres en la Inglaterra georgiana.
