"Nightwood" is not only a classic of modernist literature, but was also acknowledged by T. S. Eliot as one of the great novels of the 20th-century.

Eliot admired Djuna Barnes' rich, evocative language. Barnes told a friend that "Nightwood" was written with her own blood 'while it was still running.' That flowing wound was the break-up of an eight-year relationship with the love of her life. Now recognised as a twentieth-century classic, the influence of Djuna Barnes' novel has been, and continues to be, exceptional.

Biografía del autor

Djuna Barnes nació en Cornwall-on-Hudson (Nueva York) en 1892 y murió en Nueva York en 1982. Radicada en París en los años de entreguerras, frecuentó a las principales figuras del arte y la literatura de la época, desde Charles Chaplin y Marcel Duchamp hasta James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pond, Eugene O'Neill, Samuel Beckett, Alexis Carrel o Ernest Hemingway. Es autora de la novela Ryder y de la obra teatral en verso Antiphon además de diversos volúmenes de poesía, ensayo y miscelánea.
