Es escritora a tiempo completo, y además dirige talleres de escritura creativa en escuelas locales. Su primer álbum ilustrado, x{0026}lt;i Don't Dip Your Chips in Your Drink, Kate!x{0026}lt;/i , ganó dos premios regionales y quedó finalista de un tercero. Su serie x{0026}lt;i Princesax{0026}lt;/i , ilustrada por Sarah Warburton, ha vendido miles de ejemplares en todo el mundo. Vive en Sheffield (Inglaterra) con su marido guitarrista, dos hijas descaradas, un gato negro muy esponjoso, una carpa, cuatro gallinas y un perro llamado Roo. Además de escribir, a Caryl le encanta caminar por la montaña, nadar, repantigarse, hacer galletas y bizcochos, arrancar las malas hierbas del jardín, correr, dormir, charlar y sentarse a la mesa de alguna cafetería.
