Bernardine Evaristo, anglonigeriana, es autora de diez libros y muchas otras obras producidas y publicadas que abarcan todos los géneros: novela, poesía, ficción en verso, relato corto, ensayo, crítica literaria, teatro y radionovela. Su obra se fundamenta en su interés por la diáspora africana. Bernardine es activista de largo recorrido por la inclusión en las artes, y ha emprendido varios proyectos para luchar contra la falta de representación de las personas de color. En 1982, cofundó la primera compañía de teatro de mujeres negras de Gran Bretaña, el Theater of Black Women; en 2007 puso en marcha un programa de mentorías para poetas de color, y en 2012 creó, junto con la Universidad de Brunel, el Premio Internacional de Brunel de Poesía Africana. Es profesora de Escritura Creativa en la Universidad de Brunel en Londres.
