Biografía del autor

Eileen Chang (1920-1995) nació en el seno de una familia de clase alta en Shanghai. Estudió literatura en la Universidad de Hong Kong, pero el ataque japonés sobre la ciudad la obligó a volver a Shanghai, donde comenzó a publicar los relatos que la convertirían en una célebre escritora. Tras la llegada al poder de los comunistas se instaló en EE. UU. Aunque su popularidad se mantuvo viva en Taiwán y en Hong Kong, durante el régimen comunista sus libros quedaron relegados en la China continental por motivos políticos. En los años 90, su obra fue redescubierta con gran éxito.
