Biografía del autor

Julia Donaldson nació en Londres, Inglaterra, en el año 1948. Es una actriz y escritora de libros infantiles, aunque también ha escrito obras de teatro. En sus inicios escribía canciones para programas infantiles de televisión, hasta que en 1993, a partir de la letra de una de sus canciones, escribió una historia para niños. Desde ese momento se ha dedicado a escribir libros. Mediante lecturas dramatizadas, obras de teatro y poesía, ha llevado a cabo actuaciones encaminadas a fomentar en los niños el amor por los libros y la lectura. Sus libros se caracterizan por contar historias para niños utilizando las rimas, además de por estar ilustrados, mayoritariamente, por Axel Scheffler. "El Grúfalo", basado en la tradición oral china, aunque adaptado al verso infantil como texto en rimas pareadas, y calificado por algunos como "un clásico moderno", es uno de sus libros más populares. A lo largo de su carrera como escritora ha recibido infinidad de premios y galardones, entre los que podemos destacar el Children's Laureate 2011-2013. Asimismo, podemos destacar el título honorífico de Doctor en Letras de la Universidad de Bristol en 2011, y otro de la Universidad de Glasgow en 2012.
