Jon Krakauer es un periodista, escritor y montañista estadounidense, reconocido por sus libros sobre alpinismo. En 2003 incursionó en el campo del periodismo de investigación donde es un referente. Krakauaer es autor de ocho libros entre los que destacan Hacia rutas salvajes y Mal de altura, y ha recibido el Academy Award in Literature de la Academia Americana de las Artes y las Letras.
