At the age of five, little orphan Heidi is sent to live with her grandfather in the Alps. Everyone in the village is afraid of him, but Heidi is fascinated by his long beard and bushy grey eyebrows. She loves her life in the mountains, playing in the sunshine and growing up amongst the goats and birds.

But one terrible day, Heidi is collected by her aunt and is made to live with a new family in town. Heidi can't bear to be away from her grandfather; can she find a way back up the mountain, where she belongs? Heidi was written as a book "for children and those who love children". It is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literatureIllustrated throughout with line drawings.

Biografía del autor

Escritora suiza nacida en Hirzel, un pueblo en la montaña cerca de Zúrich. Era la cuarta de seis hermanos y su padre era médico rural. Spyri estudió idiomas y piano en Zúrich, donde vivió con una tía, luego pasó un año en un internado femenino, donde aprendió francés. Casada con Bernhard Spyri, se instaló en Zúrich y comenzó a publicar algunos relatos. Su primera novela aparece en 1870, seguida de una veintena entre las que se encuentra Heidi (1880).
