Victoria Aveyard creció en una pequeña ciudad de Massachusetts y se matriculó en la Universidad del Sur de California en Los Ángeles. Allí se licenció en escritura cinematográfica. Como escritora y uionista, ella misma dice utilizar su carrera como excusa para leer demasiados libros y ver demasiadas películas.
