El inglés Kes Gray fue elegido en 2003 por " The Independent " como uno de los diez mejores autores de libros para niños. Ha recibido numerosos galardones, entre otros, el Children's Book Awards (2001), el Sheffield Book Awards (2001), el Key Stage 1 Winner Stockport Awards (2001), el Experian Big 3 Picture Book Winner (2001), y en 2002 resultó nominado par el Blue Peter Awards. Con toda una carrera como publicista para televisión, y tras veinte años como autor de libros infantiles y juveniles, se caracteriza por sus textos poco convencionales, que por su originalidad sorprenden tanto a los niños lectores como a sus padres.
