William Faulkner (1897-1962), Premio Nobel de 1949, uno de los maestros indiscutibles de la literatura norteamericana, residió toda su vida en Oxford, Mississippi, su tierra natal, que le sirvió de modelo del condado de Yoknapatawpha.
