Thomas and Grace are fellow worshippers at the Baptist chapel in the small Essex town of Aldleigh. Though separated in age by three decades, the pair are kindred spirits torn between their commitment to religion and their desire for more. But their friendship is threatened by the arrival of love.Thomas falls for James Bower, who runs the local museum. Together they develop an obsession with the vanished nineteenth-century female astronomer Maria Veduva, said to haunt a nearby manor. Sarah Perry (Essex, 1979) es doctora en Escritura Creativa por la Royal Holloway de la Universidad de Londres, y ha sido escritora residente de la Gladstonex{0026} x02019;s Library y de la Ciudad de la Literatura en Praga. Su primera novela, x{0026}lt;em After me comes the flood x{0026}lt;/em (2014), recibió numerosos premios, pero ha sido x{0026}lt;em La serpiente de Essexx{0026}lt;/em , ganadora del British Book Award 2016 y que se traducirá a más de quince idiomas, la que la ha situado como una de las jóvenes autoras británicas más destacadas de la actualidad.
