Maureen Johnson nació en Filadelfia, pero no tardó en escaparse a Nueva York a estudiar teatro y literatura en la Universidad de Columbia. Durante el proceso, sirvió hamburguesas en compañía de científicos locos y esqueletos parlantes en Nueva York, trabajó en un bar de Picadilly Circus y junto a cinco tigres en Las Vegas, Ha escrito más de una veintena de libros que abarcan los más diversos géneros, desde novela romántica a policiaca.
