Death and the Gardener traces the final month of a father's life, a dying father in a dying world. His son Georgi, the narrator, reports both radically and gently from those end times. The novel unfolds also as a history of the father's generation born in Bulgaria at the end of World War II, often absent, clinging to the snorkel of a cigarette, swimming in different waters and clouds. What kept the old man down to earth was his garden, turning after his departure into a place of ultimate loss but also of consolation, where he would live on in the first tulips of spring. With striking acuity, Georgi Gospodinov explores the peculiar reality of taming grief through storytelling. p Gueorgui Gospodínov (1968) es el escritor búlgaro más importante desde la caída del telón de acero. Finalista del premio Von Rezzori o el Brücke Berlin y ganador del premio Booker Internacional y del Strega Internacional por su novela i Las Tempestálidas /i , su obra ha sido traducida ya a más de treinta idiomas. Tras la aparición de varios poemarios con los que alcanzó prestigio y fama en su Bulgaria natal en la década de los noventa, publica en 1999 su primera obra en prosa, i Novela natural /i (próximamente en Impedimenta), que lo convierte en uno de los autores más destacados de su generación. Además de la colección de relatos i Acerca del robo de historias /i (2001; Impedimenta, 2024) y la novela i Física de la tristeza /i (2011, próximamente en Impedimenta), su obra incluye también teatro, ensayo, novela gráfica y videoinstalaciones.<br>
