Biografía del autor

Franz Kafka nació en Praga en 1883, en el seno de una familia judía de lengua alemana. Estudió Derecho y trabajó gran parte de su vida en una compañía de seguros, oficio que alternó con una escritura nocturna, febril y secreta. Enfermo de tuberculosis, murió a los cuarenta años sin ver publicados la mayoría de sus manuscritos. Su amigo y albacea Max Brod desoyó la petición de destruirlos y los dio a conocer al mundo. Narrador de lo absurdo, lo inacabado y lo opresivo, Kafka creó una obra única que retrata con lucidez la angustia, el poder y la incomunicación. La metamorfosis, El proceso y El castillo figuran entre las cumbres de la literatura del siglo xx. Como él mismo escribió: Un libro debe ser el hacha que rompa el mar helado dentro de nosotros .
