Andrew Ox{0026} x02019;Hagan nació en Glasgow en 1968 y estudió en la Universidad de Strathclyde. Entre 1991 y 1994 trabajó en la redacción de la London Review of Books, revista de la que, como es el caso de Esquire, es editor at large. Ha publicado cuentos, ensayos y artículos en medios como The New York Rewiev of Books, The Guardian, The New Yorker o Granta, que en 2003 lo incluyó en su lista de los veinte mejores novelistas británicos jóvenes. Desde entonces ha publicado ocho libros, unos calificados de ensayos o biografías (The Missing, 1995; The Atlantic Ocean, 2008; La vida secreta, 2017) y otros de novelas (Our Fathers, 1999; Personality, 2003; Be Near Me, 2006; The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe, 2010; The Illuminations, 2015), pero en los que es difícil diferenciar la ficción de la no ficción.
