Actualmente reside en el sudeste de Francia, donde es jefe del Departamento de Artes, Lenguas y Literatura de la Universidad de Pau. Es especialista en literatura francesa del siglo XVIII y en las representaciones europeas de África en los siglos XVII y XVIII.
