Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Adam Elsheimer (1578-1610) lived and worked in Rome from 1600 to 1610. While artists like Caravaggio, Carracci and Rubens laid the foundations of the Baroque style, Elsheimer contributed with his main medium: miniatures painted on copper. This volume collects contributions to a conference on Adam Elsheimer that deal with his use of artistic traditions, his place within the Roman artistic scene, his connection to the emerging natural sciences, and that trace the reception of his works.
