Mark McGurl es profesor titular de la cátedra Albert Guérard de Literatura en la Universidad de Stanford. Su anterior libro, The Program Era: Postwar Fiction and the Rise of Creative Writing, ganó el Premio Truman Capote de Crítica Literaria. Anteriormente trabajó para The New York Times y The New York Review of Books.
