Biografía del autor

Mary Shelley (Londres, 1797-1851), hija del filósofo anarquista William Godwin y de la escritora protofeminista Mary Wollstonecraft, empezó a escribir su novela más célebre, Frankenstein, cuando tenía solo dieciocho años y consiguió que se publicara por primera vez en 1818, si bien de forma anónima, ya que intuyó que ninguna editorial querría publicar un libro de terror escrito por una mujer. Ya entonces fue un gran éxito, de modo que la segunda edición, publicada en 1823, ya apareció con el nombre de la autora. Se casó con el poeta Percy Shelley, que murió en un naufragio en 1822. Durante más de tres décadas, Mary Shelley conservó, envuelto en seda, el corazón de su marido.
